“All for all and nothing for no one!” – Robin Hood accessible with panthea.live
As part of the production of Robin Hood at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe, surtitles in four languages, audio description, and videos in German Sign Language (DGS) are being created for the audience thanks to panthea.live.
Accessibility in Sherwood Forest
Since this year, the Staatstheater Karlsruhe has been using our accessibility solution panthea.live at its Insel venue. The very first use of the technology revealed its great potential: for the production of Robin Hood, we created surtitles in German, English, Arabic, and Ukrainian, audio description, and videos in German Sign Language, in cooperation with yomma, among others.
Robin Hood is a play directed by Sonja Elena Schroeder for people aged nine and above. It focuses primarily on questions of justice: How can we make the world a fairer place? What is fair for whom? Who needs what? These questions are of course also relevant to the theatre, and we are therefore delighted to be able to provide accessible content for the play with panthea.live, thereby ensuring that more people can enjoy it. Audience members can borrow smartphones on site or use their own smartphones for the surtitles.
A particular challenge of the project was that the play involves both interaction with the audience and improvisation. This requires not only a special sensitivity, but also creativity in the creation of accessible content. We were delighted to take on this challenge together with our dedicated colleagues in Karlsruhe, the unbeatable team at yomma, and audio describer Elena Altenmüller!
